I am a specialist in the investigation, recording and analysis of historic buildings, particularly farmsteads and vernacular houses. Established in 1996, I act as a respected, independent consultant to the heritage sector, householders, and the construction and property industries, principally in the north of England.
I provide a tailored service, to support planning and listed building consent applications, and the discharge of planning conditions, where these concern historic buildings. I can also advise property owners who simply have an interest in the history of their buildings.
I have a varied workload, but most consists of:
- preparation of heritage statements for planning applications
- research on buildings to advise on appropriate planning schemes
- recording buildings to comply with planning conditions, before alteration, conversion or demolition
My investigation and recording of historic buildings can involve documentary or historical research, a site inspection, measured survey, and photography, all with the aim of creating a good understanding of the heritage asset. I normally provide a written and illustrated document, for the owner, planning or heritage professionals, or other interested parties.
